Pick a topic; try these sites for some general topics which might interest you, or find one of your own. Make sure to check with me before you begin so I can okay your topic.

Be sure to check with me to make sure your topic is okay, then go ahead and find information on your topic. You will be responsible for at least two web pages on your topic (more is better) with photos, links, descriptions (your words please, or if you quote cite a resource link). Why do you think this technology is important, convince us your find is the most important one out there!! Think of this as current events with a technology twist.

Make sure the text is in your words, quote where you use exact phrases from your resources, and add your opinions and conclusions. You will be presenting this assignment to the class on Tuesday, June 15, during final exam time.

Upload several pictures to your new account. They should represent something on your map. Keep flickr open and open a new tab or window.

Log on to google and go to maps --- my maps

Click on the map you have started. Click on Edit.

To insert a picture click on a marker. A dialog box should open. It will not be there if you are not in edit mode.

Click on Rich Text and then on the picture icon. A popup box will ask for the url address of the picture. Go back to your flickr account and click on the picture that you want to use. Copy the address in the menu bar and past it in the popup box from google maps. Click okay. It should work. Play with adding a few pictures to different points.

Have fun. If you finish early: Take some time to go back to other assignments and tidy them up. I have noticed that some pages do not have titles, make sure spelling and grammar is correct. Line up pictures, etc.

Web Advertising Spoof Ads - How advertising firms make fun of other ads to sell products

Gallery of Parody - More spoof ads

Media Literacy is understanding how the media (Internet, TV, magazines, newspapers) visually manipulate how we think and what we want. The advertising industry is out to sell product, forget any other intention on their part (whether the product be stuff, people, arts, a lifestyle). There are some great organizations dedicated to teaching us how to be visually literate, to figure out how we are being manipulated by the media.
